History<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

The overall, or \"\u00c5vven\" in everyday speech, has a long history beginning back in the roaring 20s and 30s. At that time, students wore a so-called B-frack (Spyfrack) at traditional student events, and refreshments consisted of nothing but Punsch. This attire was worn regardless of gender, primarily by Teknologer (students at the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH), for 40-50 years before being replaced in the 70s by lab wear. This was because used tailcoats had become hard to come by, having gone out of fashion, and buying a new one wasn't an option on a student income. Besides being far cheaper, lab wear was also practically convenient, students no longer had to go home to change before visiting the pub after their lab sessions. The overall (formerly known as lab wear) spread like wildfire through Sweden's universities, and within 15 years nearly every institution had lovingly embraced it. KTH's students started the trend, and today the overall is considered on par with the finest of tailcoats in student culture.<\/span><\/p>

At our university, we apply relatively few restrictions when it comes to the overall and its regulations, allowing room for creativity and personal expression. Below follows the code of conduct that has evolved through oral tradition and, in the form of general consensus, been shaped into an unofficial but long-standing Overall Code.<\/span><\/p>

Code of Conduct Regarding the \u00c5verall's Appearance<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a71 Trading Parts \u2013 A common studentikos pastime among many students is to unpick and trade certain parts of their overall. The different parts carry different meanings.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a71.1 Collar \u2013 Trading your collar with someone indicates that you have, or have had, a steady relationship with the person whose collar you traded for.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a71.2 Back Pocket \u2013 Trading a back pocket with someone indicates that you have had intercourse with the person whose back pocket you traded for.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a71.3 Sleeves\/Pant Legs \u2013 Carry no real meaning (other than being friends). People trade these often regardless.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72 Patches and Their Positions \u2013 The patches adorning your overall aren't just decoration; they play a significant role in overall culture. The patches show where you study, which Phest (party) you've attended, and even what kind of person the wearer is. Patches are traded feverishly among students.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.1 Committee Patch \u2013 Must be placed on the left breast pocket (closest to the heart).<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.2 Committee patches may only be traded for other committee patches.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.3 Program Patch \u2013 Must be placed on the right breast pocket.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.4 A Sexm\u00e4steri patch may only be traded for another Sexm\u00e4steri's patch.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.5 Back prints must never, under any circumstances, be covered.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.6 StudentPhest-related patches go on the left leg.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.7 All others go on the right leg (as far as possible).<\/span><\/p>

\u00a72.8 If you wish to adorn yourself with patches you don't actually like (because they're cool), these should be attached to the part of the overall covering the Gluteus Maximus.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a73 Hygiene \u2013 Does not exist. Washing the overall may only occur in the following scenarios:<\/span><\/p>

\u00a73.1 The owner is currently wearing it.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a73.2 Someone else's foul-smelling bodily fluids have, against your will (and hopefully theirs too), been donated to your otherwise fresh-summer-breeze-scented overall.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a74 In addition to the overall, vests may also be worn. In the case of a vest, rules \u00a72.6, \u00a72.7 & \u00a72.8 apply. An overall may be equipped with whatever you like. A general recommendation, however, is to always carry: a towel and a bottle opener; your right leg adorned with your name\/nickname; a chairperson's armband (applies to the chairperson only, of course); a \"Tassle\" in your committee's color (applies to treasurers only); well-attached patches \u2014 sewn on is preferred over glued; and a strong personal touch (in addition to the mandatory fresh-summer-breeze scent).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\"Spex\" is slang for \"spektakel\" (spectacle), a form of amateur theater with strong studentikos ties. It originated around 1850 at Uppsala University and has since spread across all of Sweden. In 2002, the first Spex-SM (Spex National Championship) was held in \u00d6rebro. <\/span>
<\/span>It was also in Uppsala that the tradition began of the audience shouting commands to the performers on stage, dictating how lines should be redone. Examples of commands they might shout include: \"Omstart\" (Restart), \"Omtag\" (Retake), \"P\u00e5 Tyska\" (In German), or \"Tungkyss\" (French Kiss\/Tongue Kiss). <\/span><\/p>


<\/span>\"Gyckel\" or \"gyckelspel,\" also called \"spex\" at some universities, is a humorous performance, prank, or practical joke. Gyckel is common within studentikosa circles. Gyckelspel can be performed both on stage and, for example, as street theater. Gyckelspel can be carried out both as a group and as a one-man show.<\/span>
